The CCS Middle School boys basketball team lost a heartbreaking overtime game to the Patriots from South Haven 37 to 30. The Colts led at the half by 2 and extended the lead to 6 at the end of the 3rd quarter. In the fourth the Colts found themselves in foul trouble and the lead dropped to 2 points with 6 seconds remaining. That is when a Patriot went up for a three point shot and was fouled by the Colts. The Patriot player hit the first two shots but missed the third and the game went into overtime. The officials lined the teams up facing the wrong baskets for the jump ball. South Haven won the tip and their player streaked the wrong way and scored in the Colts goal. The officials decided that since it was their fault the basket would be awarded to the Patriots. The call was a correctable error by rule but the officials did not correct it. The Colts were in effect penalized for doing the correct thing and letting the player score while the Patriots were rewarded for scoring in the wrong basket. The Colts never recovered and the game ended with the Patriots winning 37 to 30.
